Today's Viewing Room post features one of the best models I work with, Kayla. Originally from Iran and a world traveller, having lived in many places including Australia and now the UAE, Kayla was once again in the UK this past June.

As our first half day together up in Scotland was so fruitful, I jumped at the chance to work with this fabulous lady once again. And this time we made it a full day. She was already due at Basford for some studio days so with a little liaison we managed to tack another day onto the end so that we could have the place to ourselves and really dive into creating together.

Kayla is in that rare 1-2% of models who is also a true lover of the arts. Some are also photographers, others painters, and some, like Kayla just absorb and are interested in art. This shows up in so many ways; they often care about trying to get the image right in camera, which means more frequent back of camera reviews. They are super conscious of their posing, knowing that a limb a few cms out of place will spoil an otherwise excellent image. They also instinctively know their light and how to place themselves in it.

These basic tenets really do separate the very good from the elite level art models. I say this not to disparage any of the other models out there, including many I have worked with. I'm merely noting that there is a very noticeable difference when you're in the presence of such a model.
