Two staples of the photography world collide

Shoot update

A quieter week this week, but a mountain of edits to go through. I also need to get in some longer distance walking, as my plan to do the High Weald Landscape trail in five days is only two months away now.

The trip went well but wasn't without hiccups. Sadly, my shoot with Sophia Gray had to be cancelled on the day, thanks to Southern! This simply meant I enjoyed Stansted Airport's hospitality for longer than I anticipated.

Then as I landed in Germany two models dropped out of their shoots for illness and transport logistics. Followed on the Tuesday by the model scheduled for mid-day for reasons only known to herself! It would be nice if some models viewed TF as work not shooting for free. This left me with 7 hours of a 14 hour studio booking void of models.

In contrast to that potential disaster, a quick casting on Model Management and Model Kartei got me 10 applications and three brilliant replacements in under an hour, with the first model getting to the studio in 20 minutes! So not the disaster it could have been. A much calmer day on Wednesday, three great shoots and another evening flight back to the UK.

Thursday saw me working with Nia Virenes. Wow! Wait till you see these images. And the trip was finished off in timeless classic style with the very sought after Nausicaa Yami. Train home and bed!

All that said, it was a useful experience with lots of learning. I'd taken delivery of the Leica SL3-S the week before and shot exclusively with it on the trip. The SL2-S sitting rather sulkily in the kit bag. I'm going to need to rethink my approach for lighting, though. There's only so much you can take if you want to take carry on only. So about 6 weeks to figure that out before the March trip to Paris & Antwerp.

Today's content

Today's post is another featuring the wonderful Kayla. If you caught my 2025 round ups, then you'll have seen some of these images already, but today is the first time I'm sharing the full look.

These were taken in the studio lighting section of the shoot. We'd started out, making the most of the late afternoon light through Pavilions large French windows.

We were in a good flow by now, I think Kayla was satisfied I might know what I was doing, so checking the back of the camera became less frequent, and we flowed much better without those interruptions.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a complaint, it was refreshing to have a model that genuinely cared about what was being captured. Subsequent to this shoot, I've shot tethered a few times and that will be my go-to moving forward. You get the review stage, without such a big disruption to the shooting flow. You just shoot a little more slowly.

For this look, Kayla paired a lace white bra top/bustier styled top and a really ripped pair of jeans, and away we went.

The other 18 images in the set are available to members below.
