The Brown Room

Shooting update

Today is the reunion with Rose (Tillie) and then Marie tomorrow.

Today's content

It's three months to the day since I headed up to Cumbria to shoot with Tryst for the first time in her lovely old cottage close to Penrith in April.

I'd been aware of this model for a few years, had always been intrigued by the light in her images (as she shoots almost exclusively from home). So when she started to follow my work and added me to a list of photographers she'd like to work with, it became a simple decision to find out what working with her would be like.

So after a few message exchanges, we were all lined up and agreed on a style of shoot we'd look to explore in the 5 hours we'd set aside to work with one another.

We shot in this room which she'd recently painted brown and it was plainly furnished with a table and this beautifully weathered brown leather sofa. The way the Cumbria light fell through the window to the right of frame just gave the whole room a fabulously autumnal feel. Where better to shoot some nudes, which may divert into erotica.

Erotica isn't something I've shot a lot of. Mainly because there aren't a great many excellent models that specialise in it. And I normally work from studios where, I feel, it looks too contrived. Or maybe I've been shooting it wrong.

Tryst was very kind to offer to help me with exploring this genre a little further. So I let her do her thing and tried to capture what I was seeing, as sympathetically and aesthetically aligned as I could.
