Window Lit Whites

When Iran, Scotland and England combined

Window Lit Whites

As you know from last week's post, I'm a little reflective, at the moment. 2025 has been a great year and there have been more than a few stand out shoots in the 40+ I've done.

One came in May when I headed up to Scotland for another visit to Barrie's awesome space on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Pavilion Studios.

I'd seen Kayla post about her UK tour and have perused some of her previous work, it made sense to get my little behind up north of the border to sample the experience of creating with her.

Having learned the lesson of trying to do it all in a day, and with a mid-afternoon start, I decided to overnight up there, which made for a less hurried pace and less coffee!

I picked Kayla up from her previous shoot, and we headed over to Barrie's place in Alice. I know some photographers can be a bit snotty about this sort of stuff, but when I had my studio, I'd always be ferrying models to and from Leeds station to the studio. And the primary reason I had for doing it was it gave me the chance to break the ice with the model, especially if it was our first time shooting together. That 10 - 15 mins can work wonders for results in front of camera.

Anyway, once we arrived, coffees consumed, and Kayla ready to shoot, we had a brief discussion about how to start. The light was good, so we opted for a few natural light looks before switching over to a studio set up. This is one of the great things about Pavilion; fab French doors with net curtains creates a wonderful bank of beautifully diffused light. And it was this that we made good use of with this first set of the day.
